And guess what! Yabonga, short for siyabonga, is an expression of thanks in Xhosa and Zulu. Yabonga’s story is an uplifting one and Little Zebra Books has a chapter in their story!

This NGO operates out of a vibrant and well-run center in Cape Town, South Africa. Founded in 1998 by Ulpha Robertson and Ursel Barnes, it supports pre-schools in the poorest urban communities of Mfuleni, Kuyasa, Luvuyo, Crossroads, Nyanga and Weltevreden. Yabonga has grown since and includes a Children’s Centre and a Safe House in Makhaza – an area in the largest and fastest-growing township of Khayelitsha.

Feedback from the Yabonga Management and their team is one of thanks. “…. the books were colorful and excited the children who participated well, often exchanging laughs with the child counsellors when they were reading.”

Last year Little Zebra Books donated 1400 books to the Children’s Project, in Xhosa, English and Afrikaans. Your donation to Little Zebra Books helps to uplift and build children in South Africa, well beyond the walls of Yabonga.

This is super! I actually drove past the Yabonga offices this weekend and said a thankful prayer for the work that they are doing.
