It takes lots of people to put Little Zebra Books into the hands of children! A small office staff is sponsored by dozens of supporters, and produces books for a growing number of partners who run reading groups for thousands of children.

Staff

Gillian, Hilary and David work at the office in Cape Town.

Little Zebra Books was started in 2013 by David and Hilary Ker.

David Ker still acts as director. He is the visionary, fundraiser, and communications guru. He also develops new titles and works with the various artists hired by Little Zebra Books.

Hilary Ker loves to design book layouts and work with new translations. She coordinates printing and shipping, and also manages administration and finances.

Gillian Basson is our new head of social media, and eagerly uses her graphic design and computing skills to help with every facet of the work.

Eleanor Whitaker works remotely from Zimbabwe, helping David with communications, and making sure the LZB website is awesome.

Jeni Bister is our field coordinator, communicating with partners who use our books across Southern Africa. She has recently joined us at the office in Cape Town.

Partner Organisations

Literacy organisations across Southern Africa use and distribute our books in local communities on a scope we could never attain by ourselves. Many volunteers are also involved in leading reading groups and Bible club programs for children.

Little Zebra Books depends on feedback from these front line workers to develop and perfect new titles which are culturally relevant for the children in their regions.

They also provide us with stories and reports so that donors can realise the impact of their giving, and so that we can help them raise funds for their reading programs.

We produce beautiful books, and then local people provide enthusiasm, a passion for literacy, and direct mentorship to thousands of kids in a way we never could without them.

Supporters

Our staff provide the technical publishing know-how and the vision to make beautiful books. Our partner organisations eagerly use the books all over Southern Africa. But without our supporters, Little Zebra Books wouldn’t be able to produce and print a single title, and our partners would never receive the materials they’re so excited about.

Our supporters are men and women around the world who love what we’re doing, and want it to grow.

Our supporters give. Some give to the occasional fundraiser, some give every month. All of them together make it possible for Little Zebra Books to make their way into the hands of children.

Our supporters pray. Little Zebra Books wouldn’t be what it is without the churches and individuals who pray faithfully for our staff, our operations, and our partner organisations.

Our supporters share. One of the most important things our supporters do is to tell their friends about Little Zebra Books. As more and more people learn about what we’re doing, it brings new opportunities, new funding and new partners for Little Zebra Books.
