Little Zebra Books joins the rich heritage of African storytelling with the art of world-class illustrators. Our books are published in local African languages and distributed to children in African communities.
We produce books in four categories: Easy Readers, Folktales, Bible Books, and African Storybooks.
Please note that the books shown on our website are in English and Portuguese for the purpose of demonstration. When we print, however, our focus is on African languages.
Easy Readers
Little Zebra Books publishes early-childhood literacy books such as counting books and animal books. These simple books have only a few words, and are useful for children who are just beginning to learn to read in their own language.

Folktales
Little Zebra Books transforms traditional African folktales and children’s stories into beautifully illustrated books. In most cases, this is the first time one of these stories has been professionally illustrated and printed.

Bible Books
Little Zebra Books produces high-quality Bible-based publications in African languages. Our “African Parables of Jesus” are illustrated as if they occur in a modern African context, in order to highlight just how relevant these parables still are for people in Africa today.

African Storybooks
This category consists of stories and artwork originating from the African Storybook website. Little Zebra Books selects some of the best stories available there, and publishes them in a bilingual presentation. These books are currently available in all South African languages in one mid-size A5 format.

Our Book Formats
All of our Easy Readers, Folktales, and Bible Books are produced in two different formats: a small monolingual format and a large, square bilingual format.
Firstly, every Little Zebra Book is produced in a small folding book layout.
This format is specifically designed to be a cost-effective way of printing thousands of books to distribute to individual children so that each child receives their own copy to take home.
The folding books are monolingual, containing only the children’s first language.
Secondly, every Little Zebra Book is produced in a large, square, bilingual layout.
This format is specifically designed to be used by the adults, teachers, and Sunday school teachers who use our books with children. The 21x21cm size makes it easy to show the pictures to a group of children.
These large books are all bilingual because readers tend to have more experience reading the national language of their country. For Mozambique and Angola, where we send the majority of our books, the national language is Portuguese, so the books are produced with the African language on top, and the Portuguese underneath.
