Dear friends,
When we started Little Zebra Books, we saw generations of children in Mozambique growing up without ever experiencing the joy of reading. We dreamed about changing that by providing beautiful books for children in their own language. And now we’re seeing that dream become a reality. Check out the story below about two young readers that are becoming leaders.
In 2013, the very first reading groups using our books were started in the dry and dusty city of Tete, Mozambique. In one of those groups were 9-year old twin girls, Lara* and Sara*. They had difficulty reading when they first joined. Neither of them had ever read at all in their own language and they could barely sound out words in Portuguese, the official language of Mozambique.
Now five years later, they are both still involved in Little Zebra Books reading clubs. They can now read fluently and they come to the reading clubs to help the younger children learn to read.
How exciting to see our dream come true. Lara and Sara are growing up with books in their own language and they are sharing that joy with other children. These are just two of the thousands of children in Mozambique that have been growing up as readers thanks to our books.
*All children’s names are pseudonyms.
Please pray:
- Pray for Lara and Sara as they grow and become leaders in their community.
- Pray for the thousands of children in Mozambique receiving our books that they would learn to read and learn God’s Word.
- Pray for us as we try to meet the growing demand for our books across Africa.
Thank you,
David
